Dining Review for:

Newportville Inn
4120 Lower Rd.
Newportville, PA 19056

Visited Tuesday March 29, 2005

Our third visit to the Newportville Inn was to give this establishment one last chance to impress us as our previous two visits were less then stellar with food that was only so-so and beer from taps that produced far to much head.

This recent visit started well and seemed to get better as the tavern offered Tuesday night "Quizo", a form of Trivia that offered prizes and was rather fun. Sadly though our visit quickly soured as we called over the owner to discuss what I deemed to be a billing error with our order. The owner took an immediate stance that his bartender could not possibly be wrong and rather then discuss it with us, further replied "F**K YOU" and walked away.

I was stunned! Mind you this was the owner of the restaurant and this was not a heated conversation at all. The owner cared not to investigate the possibility of an error and treated me and my guest as if we were the lowest form of scum that ever graced his establishment.

I am always looking for a nice place to dine and cannot recommend the Newportville Inn at all. Food can always improve with a mere change of selection or simply dining on a different day of the week. Beer can flow finicky one day and great the next but a rude Owner who tells his customers "F**K YOU" should simply not be tolerated and no customer should be offended in this way in a room full of people. Avoid this place, why put yourself at risk?, there are far better and friendlier places to dine and drink.

Update 6/23/2005

Many have written that the food and beer was fine during their visit and I would like to point out that on this, our third visit the food was fine as was the beer. My difficulty was with the handling of a problem by the owner in a very unprofessional manner.

You were right sir. I wish that i saw your site sooner i could have saved myself a lot of greaf. I also was told to go (F) myself by the owner of this same place. over a mistake by the bar maid.

Other Comments: Will never go back again .

I have had quite the opposite experience from the gentleman writing the negative review. The Newportville Inn always has great food, and the best beer in bucks county. Art, the owner, is a generous and charitable member of our community, and has always been fair and gracious in all of my business dealings with him. I have never known Art to pull any punches.

I think the writer of this article is on crack. The Newportville in is a great establishment and the food is always great. I don't think I ever had a bad meal in the last 5-6 years I have gone there. They always have new micro beers on tap and the bartenders are top notch. I'm sure the owner would never tell anyone off, especially for no good reason.

I must have went to the wrong place. I had a good time and the food and drinks were excellent.

My experience for the last 17 years of enjoying the food, atmosphere, the 18 or so beers on tap has always been a positive one.

The Newportville Inn is my favorite local establishment, BAR none (no pun intended.)  The food is fantastic and the selection of beers is one of the best in the area.  Everyone on the staff has always been friendly, including the owner.  It is difficult for me to imagine the owner saying "f*** you" to two different clients on two separate occasions.  I just don't believe that for a minute.  And if anyone was really driven to say it, then I submit that the complainant is omitting whatever outrageous behavior they themselves engaged in.  Newportville Inn is the greatest!!!  Good Food, Good Drink, Good Friends.

    8/13/2005 Mike R. writes:

Well I am a follower of Big Jim, who they had working there for 1 night, and canned him cause he was not "Newportville" Material. WEll F*** you too Mr Owner. The Beer Geeks will take their business elsewhere. (contents edited)

Visit on 10-29-05  This place has changed and not for the better.  Crab dip was missing crab.  Their famous crab cakes were horrible.
Other Comments: When I called the manager to inform him of the changes.  He could care less.  I will never return.

We can't wait to come back to your place. Does (edited) still work there? Please let me know because her cooking is delicious.  If she is not there then where is she? We follow her where ever she goes!  Thank you! John

I was not impressed but the owner was so drunk he could sit on his bar stool and all he did was hit on the young girls

I was embarrased to read the negative comments found on this site with regard to the Newportville Inn.  It is and always has been a fine establishment with wonderful food and drinks.  I have met and spoken with the owner on several occasions and found him to be a perfect gentleman.  If you have read the negative comments please visit the Inn yourself before you put any faith in them.  Some people are just far too difficult to please.

    6/18/2006 Update to 3/29/2006 and 6/23/2005 Comments

The problems that I had mentioned with the Newportville Inn happened only as a result of asking questions of the service. I am sure if you can sit quietly and never have to ask a question about your bill you will do just fine and enjoy yourself and your dining experience. If however the need arises for you to ask a simple question, you may be in for the insult of a lifetime in a crowded restaurant.

4/27/2007 Emily H. of Bensalem Pennsylvania writes:

I am really disgusted with what was said about the Inn.  You say that you only have a problem if you ask questions about your bill or service.  I hate to break your heart, but I HAVE asked questions about my bill/service and I have NEVER gotten a rude, nasty, or ignorant response from ANYONE.  The fact that you would edven tell people not to go is beyond me.  Instead of telling people what to do why don't you let them make up that decision on their own.

If your intrested in over priced german food bought at sams club and overcooked by (edited) and served in a dark and gloomy atmosphere you would probably enjoy this place. I also have met the owner and wouldn't classify him as a perfect gentleman, more of an unstable money grubbing (edited). But don't take my word for it go and spend $35 for some sausage and 2 beers.

We have always more than happy @ Newportville Inn the last dz. of so yrs. & will continue there unless a mistake occurs.

I used to work here and it blows.save your money and go back 2 blocks to (edited) and get the Steak neptune or Filet' mignon. It's worth the gas and money.

9/17/2008 Fred L. of Croydon Pennsylvania writes:

yes,I used to work there for about 5 months, and I know (edited) the owner-I agree he is a real prick as well as (edited) the cook. The only redeeming person there is (edited) the manager.I hope he is still there, because the rest are all rude, inconsiderate, group of bottom feeders. That place is worse than (edited),hard to believe.
Other Comments: I would'nt even give it 1 star-by the way,(Edited)

Why would you buy the rights to newportvilleinn.com just to write a bad review of the place.  You my friend have an enormous amount of time on your hands.

5/14/2009 Tracy R. of Croydon Pennsylvania writes:

I used to work here and quit because how dirty the place is. It is not a general rule to wash your hands, ever. There is no hand washing station and employees are forced to use their hands as serving spoons for the salads. The pretzels leftover from the tables are not thrown away, but placed back in the communial bin for the next guest. I wouldn't be surprised if you got sick here. Oh, anbd I never got my paycheck for the two days of training I worked! F (edited)!

Great place. One of the wife and I top 5 places to eat in Bucks County. Great food and spirits, the beer...Top shelf. As for the person who wrote Negative comment, the old saying goes, "there's an A**hole neighbor in every neighborhood"....he's the one that would say "where? I haven't noticed. Try eating there again, this time don't be ignorant.
